Tire Shop Manager


Core Function

Reporting to the Vauxhall Agro Manager, the Tire Shop Manager will ensure efficient day-to-day operation of the Co-op’s tire shop, balances, installs and rotates tires.

The Tire Shop Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Tire Shop, including sales; gross margin, other expense control; department standards; ordering and inventory control; human resources; customer service; administrative duties; and department production and merchandising.

Assists members with purchasing tires, writes tire purchase and service invoices, answers questions, makes recommendations and provides prompt and courteous member service.

  2. Project a professional image and approach to work each day wearing uniform and name tags at all times while on the job.
  3. Display proper attitude towards others at all times.
  4. Ensure dependability and abide by attendance requirements daily.
  5. Follow the “No Hassle” guarantee when dealing with each customer concern.
  6. Provide leadership in the area of employee relations, hiring, training, development, performance management, assigning duties, discipline, recognition, termination, security, union contract compliance, administration of policy and procedures.
  7. Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints, supply shortages, and staffing issues.
  8. Perform tire removal/installation/repair service safely for all passenger, light truck vehicles and long haul and tractors.  This includes removing wheel assemblies, dismounting tires, balancing, inflating and installing repaired or replacement tires, and reinstalling wheel assemblies according to procedure.  This also includes diagnosing injuries, evaluating reparability, and choosing and carrying out proper repair methods.
  9. Assist and perform mechanical inspections and service including complete understanding and use of work order inspection procedures and tools, basic understanding and use of alignment machine, flush machines, oil lube and filter service as per South Country Co-op, and be able to transfer this knowledge to the staff.
  10. Operates automatic balance machine to get reading of proper weight and placement to balance wheel. Attaches lead weights to rims with lead weight hammer.
  11. Re attaches wheels to auto using impact gun and hand torque wrench according to tire shop procedures.
  12. Assists members in determining tire needs, answers questions and makes product recommendations. Sells tires using persuasive skills and product knowledge.
  13. Rings up orders, Invoices tire purchase, receives accurate payment, makes change, process cheques, credit and debit charges, gives out receipt and submits order according to proper procedures for paperwork and performance of duties.
  14. Calculates refund amount for warranty returns of tires and auto batteries.
  15. Responsible for buying, inventory, ordering special orders, quantity, status, price, delivery and promotion of merchandise.
  16. Ensure that site equipment is well maintained and report to Agro Manager when repairs or maintenance are required.
  17. Perform or assist with the year-end competency reviews and development of work plans.
  18. To be responsible for the adherence and enforcement of South Country Co-op policies and procedures.
  19. Provide leadership in the area of health and safety. Assist in identifying unhealthy or unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.
  20. Work closely with Co-op Retail Sales Coordinators and follow programs established by them.
  21. Maintain displays and merchandising on the sales floor.
  22. Network and communicate professionally with suppliers.
  23. Follow safe front-line loss prevention practices, and maintain a constant alert against unauthorized removal of merchandise.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.



  1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Must have experience managing an automotive shop for at least 3 years.
  3. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  4. Ability to drive automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  5. Must be able to complete Co-op Certification Programs.
  6. Must have MS Office experience and mathematical skills ability to add, subtract, calculate percentage.
  7. Candidates with previous tire installation/tire sales experience will be given preference over other candidates.
  8. Able to stand, bend, stoop, lift, pull, push and grasp items over 40 lbs. in a daily basis.
